Public statement by the Sisters of St. Francis and associates Calling for an End to Violence

On this past weekend 31 innocent persons died in the wake of two violent massacres.  Have we had enough?  Are we now ready to take action?  We, Sisters of Saint Francis and Associates of Tiffin, Ohio, are calling for an end to the violence which stems from the use of assault weapons and the lack of background checks.  We ask that everyone who shares our value for life and non-violence call his/her elected officials to demand a vote to end the sale of assault weapons which are made for use in war.  We also call for universal background checks and a thorough vetting of those purchasing guns.

We hold the victims and their families in our prayers and pray that our elected officials will act quickly in response to these heinous crimes.  May the Prince of Peace guide us.
